Visceral Manipulation: Internal Organ Mobility & Functional Balance
Gently work for connective tissue
Service Description
Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a sophisticated manual therapy developed by world-renowned osteopath Jean-Pierre Barral. This treatment focuses on the subtle movements of the internal organs (viscera) and their connective tissue attachments to the spine and pelvis. The body’s organs require freedom of movement to function correctly. When an organ is restricted due to surgery, scar tissue, or stress, it creates a "pull" on the musculoskeletal system, often manifesting as chronic back pain, neck stiffness, or digestive discomfort. Using precise, gentle manual compression and elongation, I work to restore the natural mobility of the organs and their surrounding fascia. This session is particularly beneficial for those with digestive issues, post-operative adhesions, or persistent structural pain that has not responded to traditional massage. Good to know The "Detective" Work: VM is a very precise therapy. We spend time "listening" to the tissues to find the primary source of restriction, which may be far from where you feel the pain. Clothing: I recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing. Abdominal work is most effective when performed directly on the skin or through thin fabric. Eating: For your comfort, it is best to avoid eating a heavy meal for at least 90 minutes prior to your appointment. Global Standard: This treatment is performed using the authentic Barral Institute protocols, ensuring the highest level of anatomical precision and care. Restrictions Acute Inflammation: Not suitable during flares of ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, or acute gastritis. Pregnancy: Not recommended for deep abdominal work during the first trimester. Recent Surgery: Please allow 6–10 weeks for internal healing post-surgery before booking (unless specifically recommended by your surgeon). Medical Devices: Not suitable for clients with active abdominal aneurysms or certain implanted medical devices (please enquire first).
